How to change chat wallpaper
Pick a default bubble color and wallpaper set for all your chats, or set a different one for a single conversation.
Each theme is a matched set: the wallpaper and message bubble color change together, not separately. You can set a default theme that applies to every chat, and give any individual chat its own theme that overrides the default just for that conversation.
Change the default theme for all chats
- Open Settings, then tap Appearance.
- Tap Chat theme.
- Choose a preset - Black & White, Slate, Graphite, Dots, Grid, Diagonal, Green, Orange, Teal, or Aurora - or tap Custom photo to use your own image as the wallpaper.
This applies to every chat that does not have its own theme set below.
Set a different theme for one chat
- Open the chat, then tap its name at the top to open chat info.
- Tap Chat theme.
- Choose a preset, or tap Custom photo to use your own image for this chat only.
- To go back to the default theme, tap Reset to default.

A chat's own theme changes how that one conversation looks without affecting the default theme or any other chat. It follows your account, so it shows the same way on every device you're signed into.
