How to send photos and videos
Send photos and videos from your gallery or camera in an individual or group chat.
You can send a photo or video already on your phone, or capture a new one without leaving HiYou. This works in individual and group chats where you are allowed to send messages.
Send from your gallery
- Open the chat.
- Tap the attachment icon beside the message box.
- Tap Gallery.
- Select one or more photos or videos.
- For a single item, review it, add an optional caption, then tap Send.
- Open the chat.
- Tap the + button beside the message box.
- Tap Gallery.
- Select one or more photos or videos.
- For a single item, review it, add an optional caption, then tap Send.
When you select several photos, HiYou sends them together as one album. Albums are sent immediately and don't have a shared caption. If your selection also includes videos, each video is sent separately.
Take a new photo or video
- Open the chat and tap the attachment icon.
- Tap Camera, then choose Take photo or Record video.
- Allow camera access if HiYou asks for it.
- Take the photo or record the video.
- Review it, add an optional caption, then tap Send.
- Open the chat and tap the + button.
- Tap Camera, then choose Take photo or Record video.
- Allow camera access if HiYou asks for it.
- Take the photo or record the video.
- Review it, add an optional caption, then tap Send.
Cancel the preview if you don't want to send what you captured. HiYou does not upload a cancelled capture.
Captions and limits
- A caption can be added to one photo or video before it is sent.
- You can edit your own caption for up to 15 minutes after sending. Editing the caption does not change the photo or video.
- Each photo or video must be 20 MiB or smaller.
- Photos and videos are encrypted before upload. HiYou also sends the media reference and caption through the encrypted chat when secure messaging is available.
If an upload fails, check your connection and try sending the item again. HiYou may ask for access to your photos or camera the first time you use them.
View received media
Tap a photo or video in the conversation to open it. If the media is not stored on your device yet, tap its download button first.
