How to share attachments
Share documents, contacts, and your current location in a HiYou chat.
You can share a document, a contact from your phone, or your current location in an individual or group chat where you are allowed to send messages.
Share a document
- Open the chat and tap the attachment icon beside the message box.
- Tap Document.
- Choose a file from your device.
- Wait for the file to upload and send.
- Open the chat and tap the + button beside the message box.
- Tap Document.
- Choose a file from the file picker.
- Wait for the file to upload and send.
You can share any supported file that is not empty and is 20 MiB or smaller. Documents are encrypted before upload. The original filename and file type are shown in the chat so recipients can identify and open the file.
If the document is too large or the upload fails, HiYou shows an error and does not send the attachment. Check the file and your connection, then try again.
Share a contact
- Open the chat and tap the attachment icon.
- Tap Contact.
- Choose a contact and phone number from your phone.
- HiYou sends the contact card to the chat.
- Open the chat and tap the + button.
- Tap Contact.
- Choose a contact and phone number from your iPhone.
- HiYou sends the contact card to the chat.
The contact card contains the saved display name and phone number. If the number belongs to a registered HiYou account, recipients can tap Message on the card to start a private chat. Sharing a contact does not add it to anyone else's address book.
Share your current location
- Open the chat and tap the attachment icon.
- Tap Location.
- Allow location access if HiYou asks for it.
- Review the location and place name in the confirmation.
- Tap Send.
- Open the chat and tap the + button.
- Tap Location.
- Allow location access if HiYou asks for it.
- Review the location and place name in the confirmation.
- Tap Send.
HiYou shares the coordinates captured at that moment. It does not continuously update your location. The place name may initially appear as Current location if an address cannot be resolved. A recipient can tap the location card to open the coordinates in their maps app.
If you deny location permission or HiYou cannot determine your position, no location is sent. You can change location permission later in your phone's system settings.
Privacy and security
Document contents and attachment details are sent through the encrypted chat when secure messaging is available. A shared contact or location remains visible to chat participants after delivery, so share only information you have permission to disclose.
