How to edit group information
Change a group’s name, description, or icon on Android and iPhone.
Group admins can always edit group information. Other members can edit it only when Edit group settings is set to All participants. If the edit options are missing, ask a group admin to make the change or update the group permission.
These options are for group chats, not official broadcast channels.
Change the group name
- Open the group chat and tap the group name at the top.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then tap Edit group name.
- Enter a name of up to 100 characters.
- Tap Save.
- Open the group chat and tap the group name at the top.
- Tap the ellipsis menu, then tap Edit Group Name.
- Enter a name of up to 100 characters.
- Tap Save.
The name cannot be empty. Spaces at the beginning or end are removed when you save it.
Change or remove the group description
- Open the group info screen.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then tap Edit group description. You can also tap Add group description when the group does not have one.
- Enter a description of up to 500 characters.
- Tap Save.
- Open the group info screen.
- Tap the ellipsis menu, then tap Edit Group Description.
- Enter a description of up to 500 characters.
- Tap Save.
To remove the description, delete all of its text and save.
Change or remove the group icon
- Open the group info screen and tap the group icon.
- Tap the edit button.
- Choose Camera or Gallery, and allow access if HiYou asks.
- Take or choose a photo, crop it, and confirm the change. To remove the current icon, tap the delete button instead.
- Open the group info screen and tap the group icon.
- Tap the camera button.
- Choose Camera or Gallery, and allow access if HiYou asks.
- Take or choose a photo, adjust the crop, and confirm the change. To remove the current icon, choose Delete Group Icon instead.
The updated information is shown to everyone in the group. If a change fails, check your connection and confirm that you still have permission to edit the group, then try again.
