How to delete messages
Learn how to delete messages from your chats.
You can delete a message for yourself only, or - in some cases - for everyone in the chat.
Delete a message
- Press and hold the message you want to delete.
- Tap the trash icon in the top bar.
- Choose Delete for me, or Delete for everyone if it's offered.
- Confirm your choice.
- Press and hold the message you want to delete.
- Tap Delete message.
- Choose Delete for me, or Delete for everyone if it's offered.
- Confirm your choice.
When "Delete for everyone" is available
Delete for everyone only appears in group chats, and only if you're a group admin or the message is your own. In one-on-one chats, you can only delete a message for yourself - the other person keeps their copy.
